In the midst of a successful box office run, Twentieth Century Fox has put into development a sequel to Murder on the Orient Express. THR reports that the studio has hired Orient Express scribe Michael Green to pen the sequel, based on Agatha Christie's Death on the Nile. Kenneth Branagh is expected to return as director and reprise the role of Hercule Poirot.
The 1937 novel Death on the Nile saw Poirot on a vacation in Egypt and becoming involved in a love triangle gone murderously bad. This story was actually set up with a bit of dialogue at the end of Branagh's Murder on the Orient Express.
Murder on the Orient Express featured an incredible all-star cast of Branagh, Josh Gad, Daisy Ridley, Michelle Pfieffer, Penelope Cruz, Willem Dafoe, Johnny Depp and Dame Judi Dench. Death on the Nile also features an extensive cast of characters, so we should be in for another acting treat in the sequel.
