Sterling K. Brown to Appear in 'American Crime Story: Katrina'?

Newly minted Emmy winner Sterling K. Brown might have a new award-worthy project in the pipeline. The actor might be a part of the next installment of Ryan Murphy's American Crime Story anthology series, this time focused on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

The news comes after Brown was a guest on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen Wednesday night. A fan called in to ask Brown if he'd be a part of American Crime Story: Katrina, eliciting this response from the actor:
"It's going to take place next year .. hopefully there's some room in there for yours truly."
So Brown sounds like he's very interested in being a part of the series. He's also one of the leads on the most popular show on tv, This Is Us, and is coming off an Emmy win for Best Lead Actor. He also has connections to Ryan Murphy, having starred in The People vs. O.J. Simpson and winning an Emmy for that role as well. If Brown wants to appear in Katrina, and his This Is Us schedule allows him the time, you can bet good money on him showing up in some capacity.

Katrina has previously gone through a major story and cast shift. It was originally set to star Sarah Paulson, Annette Bening, Cuba Gooding Jr., Courtney B. Vance, Matthew Broderick, and Dennis Quaid. Originally to have a wider scope and be based on the book The Great Deluge by Douglas Brinkley, the installment recently shifted gears and left its cast up in the air.

Katrina will now be based on the book Five Days at Memorial by Sheri Fink. The book focuses on Memorial hospital, specifically a staff led by Dr. Anna Pou who make the decision to euthanize critically ill patients after being trapped in the hospital for days without power. Pou and two other nurses were investigated for homicide.

Sarah Paulson will play Dr. Pou and is so far the only cast member confirmed. The producers are said to be looking for roles for the other previously cast actors. Based on Sterling K. Brown's comments, I think it's safe to say he will be joining them.
